00:00 "They greenlit a show about a 30-year-old woman, and so we wrote a show about a 30-year-old woman
00:06 doing things that 30-year-old women do."
00:08 Fans were disappointed to say the least when the Lizzie McGuire reboot never made it to air,
00:12 but now we're getting more insight into plot details of the cancelled reboot.
00:16 The show, which was set to follow a grown-up version of Hilary Duff's character from the
00:20 Disney Channel series, was cancelled in 2020 due to creative differences between
00:24 Duff and Disney+ executives. Now, in a series of TikTok videos,
00:28 writer Jonathan Hurwitz revealed what storylines fans could have expected in the first few episodes.
00:34 Episode 1 reportedly started in New York with a 30-year-old Lizzie working as an interior designer.
00:39 "She's dating this very, very handsome chef,
00:42 and she ends up finding that he's been cheating on her with her best friend."
00:46 The betrayal prompts her to head back to her childhood home in California,
00:50 where animated Lizzie is there waiting for her.
00:52 In episode 2, we get answers on if Lizzie and longtime bestie Gordo are endgame.
00:57 "Gordo reveals that he is engaged to a woman and she's pregnant and they're really happy.
01:04 So no, in this version, Lizzie and Gordo would not have ended up together."
01:09 Hurwitz added that the second episode ended with Lizzie getting a message from her childhood crush,
01:13 Ethan Kraft, which led to the controversial third episode, which he believes executives
01:18 took issue with. "Lizzie wakes up in Ethan's bed in his water polo t-shirt,
01:23 and animated Lizzie pops up and she has this little checklist,
01:27 like a to-do list, and Ethan is on the list, and she checks it off."
01:31 Duff previously opened up in a Women's Health interview about the decision to scrap the reboot,
01:36 saying she told the streamer she wanted the new series to feature a more mature Lizzie.
01:40 "She had to be 30 years old doing 30-year-old things. She didn't need to be doing bong rips
01:45 and having one-night stands all the time, but it had to be authentic. I think they got spooked."
