Speed check in Gobowen, Oswestry
Transcript
00:00 So I'm here with Peter and Craig in Gaboin today. What are we up to?
00:05 We're the community speed group for Gaboin and since the police speed van was taken away,
00:12 we're the only road traffic safety that there is in the village.
00:16 We've been campaigning now for about eight months to get vehicle activated signs
00:20 and road safety implemented around the primary school and Durham College.
00:25 To date we're having a bit of a struggle with Shropshire County Council, hence we're trying to raise the profile of what we're doing.
00:32 We've got lots of public support and hopefully we can go forward from here.
00:38 How many people have you caught so far speeding?
00:41 In the initial 20 hours going past the primary school, doing six miles an hour over the limit,
00:46 we've caught 420 going past the school.
00:50 Bearing in mind that the school has one school sign and no other road safety features in place at all.
00:58 The main drop off and pick up for the children morning and evening and what was the old five
01:05 turns into a one-way road and we find roads using the pavement to get by when we've got children walking on them.
01:13 We look out of our window and we cringe at times waiting for an accident to happen.
01:19 Unfortunately nobody in Shropshire County Council seems to want to take any notice of what we're doing at all
01:26 and we just keep pushing forward with the fight.
