‘Pran Pratishta’, or consecration, of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a highly anticipated event headlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event, billed by the BJP as a grand spectacle ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, is expected to draw over 10,000 special guests from across India, including 100 international dignitaries. However, the significance of this event has been shadowed by the decision of at least two out of the four shankaracharyas, the most esteemed Hindu religious leaders, to abstain from attending. The shankaracharyas of the Govardhana Peetha in Odisha's Puri and the Jyotir Mutt in Uttarakhand's Chamoli have cited various reasons, including the presence of Prime Minister Modi in the sanctum sanctorum, for their non-participation.

00:00 The Pran Pratishta or consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a highly anticipated
00:06 event headlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
00:09 The event, billed by the BJP as a grand spectacle ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, is expected
00:15 to draw over 10,000 special guests from across India, including 100 international dignitaries.
00:21 However, the significance of this event has been shadowed by the decision of at least
00:25 two out of the four Shankaracharyas, the most esteemed Hindu religious leaders, to abstain
00:30 from attending.
00:31 The Shankaracharyas of the Govardhana Peeth in Odisha's Puri and the Jyotirmath in Uttarakhand's
00:36 Chamoli have cited various reasons, including the presence of PM Modi in the sanctum sanctorum,
00:42 for their non-participation.
00:44 The Puri Shankaracharya, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, expressed his concerns last week.
00:49 He said, "Lord Ram's consecration must be done in a dignified way.
00:53 Prime Minister will be in the sanctum sanctorum and this is being given a political angle."
00:57 He emphasized the need for adherence to scriptural guidelines during the consecration.
01:02 The Shankaracharya of the Uttarakhand Math, Swami Avimukteshwaranand, echoed similar sentiments,
01:08 emphasizing that the construction of the Ram Temple does not symbolize a victory for the
01:11 Hindu religion, contrary to BJP claims.
01:15 On the other hand, the Shankaracharyas of the Sringeri Math in Karnataka and the Sharda
01:19 Peet in Gujarat have not confirmed or denied their attendance.
01:23 Reports suggested that they may also abstain from the event.
01:26 The absence of at least two Shankaracharyas has provided the opposition with ammunition
01:30 to criticize the BJP, which has positioned the consecration as a landmark politico-religious
01:35 event, showcasing PM Modi's credentials ahead of the election.
01:43 The Shankaracharyas are the leaders of four sects founded by Adi Shankaracharya in the
01:47 8th century.
01:48 They are considered the last word in interpreting scriptures and safeguarding the four Vedas
01:53 across Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Odisha and Karnataka.
01:56 While the Puri and Uttarakhand Shankaracharyas have firmly stated their decision not to attend,
02:01 the Shankaracharyas of the Sringeri Math and the Sharda Peet in Dwarka have been silenced
02:05 so far.
02:06 However, both have released statements debunking reports of their non-attendance, emphasizing
02:11 the joy for all Sanatan Dharma followers on the occasion.
02:14 As the political row intensifies, the opposition, particularly the Congress, has seized on
02:18 the Shankaracharyas' absence to highlight what they perceive as a divide between religious
02:23 and political interests.
02:24 The Shankaracharyas and the Congress share a common viewpoint that the temple's incompleteness
02:29 and an inauspicious date on January 22 cast doubts on the consecration.
02:34 The event's organizers, including the chief priest of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth
02:37 Kshetra, Acharya Satyendra Das, asserted that all preparations are being carried out in accordance
02:42 with Shastras, dismissing any concerns about the event's legitimacy.
02:46 "Whatever is happening here is in accordance with Shastras.
02:51 Nothing is happening contrary to Shastras.
02:54 And the number of parts that have to be dedicated to Ram Lala has been made, and his throne
03:02 has been made, his buildings have been made, his dome has been made.
03:09 All arrangements have been made.
03:11 One part has to be made in three parts.
03:17 When one part is completed, and the worship will be completed, then the thought and the
03:26 saying that it is incomplete, is not incomplete.
03:30 The part where Ram Lala's throne will be established, that has to be made in three
03:37 parts.
03:38 When the three parts are established, it is completely ready, it is ready, it is in
03:45 accordance with Shastras, not contrary to Shastras.
03:48 And what they are saying is that they are making an excuse to not come, that it is not
03:54 in accordance with Shastras, so we will not go.
03:57 And whatever is happening in accordance with Shastras, it is in accordance with Shastras,
04:01 and Shastras are the proof.
04:03 All mantras, yantras, and anushtans, all that will begin, all that is in accordance with
04:09 Shastras.
