00:00 [SKATEBOARD SCRAPING]
00:03 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:06 [SKATEBOARD SCRAPING]
00:08 Hey, guys.
00:09 What's up, guys?
00:10 It's Alana from MTLBlog.
00:11 I'm on my way to go around the city discovering
00:13 local skating rinks that are within a 15-minute walk
00:16 from a metro station.
00:17 So let's see how I do.
00:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:21 I'm on my way to the first skating rink.
00:22 It's at Park Martin Luther King in Cote d'Aziz.
00:26 It is at Plum on Dome Metro.
00:28 Little note to make sure you get out at the Barclay exit.
00:32 If not, it will be 18-minute walk, like I accidentally did.
00:36 But if not, it's a 15-minute walk.
00:37 And on this list, it's the farthest one from a metro.
00:40 So let's see if it's worth it.
00:42 The park is right on that street on Appleton.
00:44 And it is super close to Plaza Coconut.
00:47 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:50 The ice is cleared off.
00:57 It looks super nice, very private.
01:00 It's in a very residential area.
01:02 There's two rinks.
01:03 That one over there looks like it's for hockey.
01:06 This one, beautiful size.
01:09 And there's no one here right now.
01:10 It's still Thursday morning, so makes sense.
01:13 So I would say this park is amazing to come skating.
01:17 It is right off Cote d'Aziz Road.
01:19 So there's some places to go eat around also.
01:23 If you have kids or your little cousins,
01:25 there's a little park right here too.
01:27 And there's two rinks, so tons of space, very clean.
01:31 I approve.
01:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:35 We are now on our way to Mackenzie King.
01:38 I'm getting off at Cote d'Aziz Metro.
01:42 It is supposed to be like two minutes away,
01:44 so very easy to get to.
01:46 Google Maps was not lying.
01:47 The park is just minutes away from Cote d'Aziz Metro.
01:52 But the skating rink at Mackenzie King Park
01:55 is currently being cleaned.
01:57 So I can't exactly rate the ice.
02:00 And obviously, no one is on it.
02:02 But we know it's being cleaned, being taken care of.
02:06 I found a major bonus.
02:08 Look at the views that you get of St. Joseph's Oratory.
02:15 Absolutely worth it.
02:16 There's also a cute little forest behind.
02:18 It's very calm, very serene.
02:20 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:24 So Jean Brion is just four minutes from Cote d'Aziz Metro.
02:27 But there's tons of stuff around it, too.
02:30 So we can get some ramen, coffee, hit the SAQ.
02:34 You can see the skating rink right in front of me.
02:37 It's close to a road, but the other way is pedestrian.
02:41 So it's pretty quiet.
02:43 And like I said before, tons of stuff around.
02:46 So definitely worth it.
02:47 There's some cool little structure next to it,
02:50 a little artsy vibe.
02:51 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:54 There's two different rinks.
02:58 The one to the right is for hockey.
03:01 This one is just a circular skating rink.
03:04 Looks well done, quite clean.
03:09 There's tons of pedestrian way around, super easy to get to.
03:14 So clearly, Cote d'Aziz and NDG have got it going on.
03:19 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:23 Got off at Cadillac Station, and I'm making my way
03:27 to Parc de Jean Haimot.
03:31 I believe that's how you pronounce it.
03:33 On your walk over, you get a little glimpse
03:35 of the Olympic Stadium.
03:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:40 Making our way.
03:43 Very residential area, but very, very cute.
03:46 Yet again, we got two rinks, one for hockey.
03:50 That looks like it's upkept.
03:53 Skating on, not so much.
03:57 Tons of snow.
03:59 Maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet.
04:02 There's a little Maison des Jeunes here, snowed up.
04:07 Skate park, definitely a cool place in the summer.
04:10 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:13 So beautiful walk up Sherbrooke with a great view
04:16 of the Olympic Stadium.
04:18 And well, you can't see it, but Châtelet Montanique
04:22 to your left.
04:23 So here we are at Parc Maisonneuve.
04:27 There's a whole round loop to skate.
04:31 This is a huge space compared to all the others.
04:36 People are cross-country skiing.
04:39 People are skating.
04:40 There's people over there playing hockey.
04:42 There's a big round about, sort of like a trail in Parc
04:46 Maisonneuve that you can skate.
04:49 So tons and tons of space.
04:51 Also, if you are into snowboarding or skiing,
04:55 just on the other side of the park,
04:57 right in front of the Olympic Stadium, is a snow park.
05:01 Where as you can see, people are hitting slopes.
05:05 We have now made it to the sixth and final skating rink
05:10 at Parc Walter Stewart in Ville-Marie/Haute-Chelaga-ish.
05:17 It's right near Rue Ontario.
05:18 There's a cute view of a church right in front.
05:21 And currently, I'm about to have the ice all to myself.
05:23 [SKATEBOARD CRUNCHING]
05:29 So I have to say, out of the six,
05:32 definitely Parc Maisonneuve.
05:34 Maybe it is one that people do know about.
05:37 But beautiful skating rink, beautiful views
05:40 of the Olympic Stadium.
05:41 And I would also have to say, even though it was
05:44 a whole mission to get to, I really
05:46 did like the rink at Parc Martin Luther King.
05:50 It's in a super good location in Cote d'Aziz.
05:52 Honestly, I would go to all six of them again.
05:54 Go out, discover Montreal, do everything.
05:57 It's so worth it.
05:58 During the winter, we love to stay in our beds.
06:00 It's so easy.
06:00 But I'm telling you, all the exercise today
06:03 made me feel amazing.
06:04 And it would do the same for you.
06:06 Thanks for watching.
