Aside from the characters she plays, she notes that as a woman, there’s a desire, and maybe an expectation, to be likable.

00:00 I think we as women see that around us all the time, this sort of expectation that we
00:07 must be likable.
00:11 And we've witnessed it in politics, we've witnessed it in the workplace.
00:17 And certainly on television, there was always this dictate about you've got to be likable.
00:23 You're a woman character, she's not likable enough, she's not likable enough.
00:28 Or else you're the villain.
00:30 Either you have to be super likable or you're the bad guy.
00:33 Or you're just a c**t.
00:37 But what's really important to me is I never ever once think about being likable.
00:42 And I never judge my characters from the outside.
00:45 And every character that I play, I play from the standpoint of my fundamental belief, which
00:53 is I believe that as women we are always trying to find our own power.
00:59 And that's very authentic for each of us individually.
01:02 It's different for each of us individually.
01:04 And so if by accident the characters end up coming out as likable, great.
01:13 You know to some degree I'm always serving the story that I'm trying to tell.
