U.S. House of Representatives lawmakers from both parties moved Tuesday to force a vote this week on the expulsion of Rep. George Santos, a Republican from New York who was the subject of a scathing ethics investigation released earlier this month and is facing nearly two dozen charges in federal court.

00:00 On the matter of expulsion, we are now going down a third attempt for a privilege resolution
00:07 to expel me from the House of Representatives this week.
00:11 Just introduced one earlier today and just earlier this evening we had a second.
00:16 Here's the case in point.
00:18 In history, five members of Congress have been expelled.
00:22 All five had suffered convictions in a court.
00:27 All five had due process.
00:32 This expulsion vote simply undermines and underscores the precedent that we've had
00:38 in this chamber.
00:40 It starts and puts us in a new direction, a dangerous one that sets a very dangerous
00:46 precedent for the future.
00:47 Look, it is not a right to be a member of Congress.
00:51 The media will always remind me of that every time I talk to them.
00:56 But it is a privilege, a privilege that you work hard for and you get elected to Congress
01:02 as a privilege to represent those who have chosen you.
01:06 Madam Speaker, I think we can all agree that due process matters and that we should all
01:11 be very concerned about the way that we are conducting this process.
01:17 I ask that all my colleagues in the House consider and understand what this means for
01:22 the future and to set the record straight and put this in the record, I will not be
01:28 resigning.
01:29 And with that, I yield back the balance of my time.
