He told reporters this after attending the Digital Transformation Leader's CxO Summit: Intelligent Digital Transformation in the 5G Era, here on Wednesday (Nov 22).

00:00 CXO Summit is an event that not only brings together
00:08 the telecommunications sector in Malaysia, but also in Southeast Asia.
00:15 I am very happy to be part of this program.
00:21 This is important because it shows that an organization like GSMA
00:26 can play a role in increasing the reputation of the telecommunications industry.
00:38 When we realize that Malaysia is one of the countries in the world
00:43 that uses 5G as a single wholesale network.
00:49 Malaysia's experience in this context is a positive one.
00:56 We also announced in May that after we achieved 80% of the population,
01:04 Malaysia and the Malaysian government will allow the second generation of NTTB.
01:13 I will have a discussion with GSMA about several things.
01:20 Not only to update the implementation status of 5G,
01:25 but also to see how GSMA and MDAC can work together.
01:35 Because we see that Malaysia is a preferred destination for foreign investors,
01:49 especially in the context of data processing centers.
01:54 We hope that with a stronger and better relationship,
02:00 including with GSMA, we can provide a ready-to-use network.
02:14 I touched on several things that were raised in the discussion with the Ministers
02:21 and companies like Google and Microsoft,
02:26 including the Digital Free Trade Zone that was announced in 2018.
02:32 Also the concept of data embassy.
02:39 This has not been decided by the government.
02:42 We will start with a little research,
02:46 because some parties have given their views on the concept of data sovereignty.
02:53 Or we can say data sovereignty.
02:58 Especially when Malaysia is a center for data processing.
03:05 What is the interest of the concept of data embassy?
03:08 This is a concept that has been proposed by several European countries,
03:13 such as Estonia and several other countries.
03:17 The concept is for a data processing center
03:23 that is being developed by a company from a certain country,
03:31 it can be considered as an embassy,
03:36 which in terms of control, is like an embassy.
03:43 This has just been announced, we have not yet made a decision.
03:49 It is an interesting concept,
03:54 but we need to balance it with the law on cyber security that is being discussed at the moment,
04:03 and the move to the Personal Data Protection Act, and the Omnibus Data Protection Act,
04:13 which will be brought to parliament in the first quarter of next year.
04:18 This is important because no matter what is proposed by the industry,
04:23 the most important thing for Malaysia is the law and the safety of data,
04:30 especially for Malaysians.
04:32 Thank you.
