Israel's government and Hamas agreed on Wednesday (Nov 22) to a four-day pause in fighting to allow the release of 50 hostages held in Gaza, in exchange for 150 Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, and the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave. 00:07 The Israeli government voted in the early hours of Wednesday to back the deal, which

00:11 would allow the release of 50 women and children hostages held in Gaza.

00:16 It also mentioned that for every 10 extra captives released, they would extend the pause

00:21 in fighting by another day.

00:23 In exchange, Hamas said, Israel would also free 150 Palestinian women and children imprisoned

00:30 there and allow hundreds of aid trucks to enter Gaza.

00:36 According to Israeli tallies, Hamas took about 240 hostages when its fighters surged into

00:41 southern Israel on October 7 and killed 1,200 people.

00:46 To date, Hamas has released four captives.

00:49 Late on Tuesday, the armed wing of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, which also took part

00:54 in the Hamas raid, said one of its Israeli hostages had died.
