00:00 I was surprised to be nominated.
00:02 I'm obviously not from here, but everyone's like,
00:04 "Oh my gosh, you're nominated
00:07 "for the Evening Standard Awards."
00:08 And then I saw the people in the category,
00:10 and they're like, "Oh my gosh, this is crazy.
00:13 "Look at the people who are nominated alongside with you."
00:15 So I was like, wow.
00:17 It's humbling and it's overwhelming,
00:21 but it's truly gratifying to know that all of your work
00:28 hasn't gone unseen or appreciated.
00:32 - 'Cause how is it?
00:33 It is hard work.
00:34 I mean, it is show after show after show after show.
00:36 How are you keeping up with it?
00:39 - It's intense.
00:40 It's one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life.
00:43 I do seven shows a week.
00:44 So much respect to everyone in the theater community
00:47 who do seven, eight shows a week nonstop.
00:51 And to make each show as if it's the first and the last,
00:54 it's grueling and it's brutal.
00:57 So, but at the same time, it's the most rewarding
01:01 to be able to create that magical moment
01:05 one time only every night.
01:08 - I saw you at press night
01:10 and you seemed very emotional at press night,
01:11 which I can imagine it could be an emotional thing.
01:13 You sort of got over that hump and the show is out there
01:15 and it's in the wild.
01:17 Is it still emotional night after night
01:19 to be up there on stage in that stark performance?
01:22 - It's extremely emotional.
01:24 You saw the show.
01:26 So you can't half-ass that performance.
01:29 You have to commit and be in tuned 100%, 110% every time.
01:34 So I literally have to throw myself into it
01:39 every single night and every matinee.
01:43 So by the grace of God, he's given me the strength
01:47 and the passion and the drive to just try
01:53 to give the best performance every performance.
01:55 You never know who's out there.
01:57 Every single person counts.
01:59 It doesn't matter anyway.
02:00 So it's, yeah, and it's four months.
02:05 So I'm just making that four months count.
02:08 - If it had been another role,
02:09 would it have been as intense?
02:10 Or was there something about this role
02:12 that was the right role for the right person
02:14 at the right time?
02:16 - You're exactly right.
02:17 It is all about the role,
02:19 the right role for the right person
02:22 that Jamie Lloyd saw the exact right time in my life.
02:26 Everything I now realize looking back,
02:28 everything that's happened in my life
02:29 and all the pain and all the struggle
02:31 and all the confusion and all the emptiness
02:33 and all the loneliness and all the fight was for a reason.
02:37 And I use most of all of that in this show.
02:42 So the stars have aligned.
02:44 And yes, like I said out there in my speech,
02:47 this is a role of a lifetime.
02:49 And like Norma Desmond says,
02:51 I feel like I'm back where I was born to be.
