00:00 So this legislation will be introduced to Queensland Parliament today and it's in response
00:06 to a spate of dog attacks that we've seen across Queensland in the last year.
00:11 In fact we saw in recent times in the suburb of Morayfield, four people end up in hospital
00:17 due to a dog attack and of course we had that Energex worker who was tragically killed in
00:25 a dog attack when he was working in the suburb of Greenbank.
00:29 So this would mean a significant increase in fines and penalties if a person's dog seriously
00:38 injures or kills a person or in fact another dog.
00:42 So it will mean a big increase in the fines and up to three years in jail as well.
00:48 There will also be on the spot fines for people who are not having their dogs on a leash or
00:53 in public spaces.
00:55 If the dog is acting inappropriately there will be potential for an increase on the spot
01:00 fines as well.
01:02 Certain breeds will also be banned including the American Pit Bull and the Dogo Argentina
01:09 and other breeds as well.
01:11 Although the breeds that are going to be banned if they're already in the community, it doesn't
01:15 mean that your dog is going to be taken off you.
01:18 Those dogs will be allowed to die a natural death but then there will be no more of those
01:23 dogs being allowed in the community.
01:25 So this follows what really are considered a community and public consultation on this
01:32 issue.
