Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrives to fanfare in New York City

A 12-ton Norway spruce from a backyard in Vestal, New York, is now set up to be one of the most iconic Christmas trees in the U.S.

00:04 The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrived early Saturday morning before a

00:07 crowd of spectators.

00:09 We want to share the magic and the joy that this tree represents from the first

00:17 moment that it arrives here. And so over the last handful of years as we brought

00:21 the tree in, we've also been handing out seed packets to everyone who's here so

00:26 that if you come to Tree Arrival Day you can go home and plant your own tree

00:29 yourself. I like how they call it Tree Arrival Day. This year's tree is a 12-ton

00:36 80-foot tall Norway spruce that's believed to be approximately 80 to 85

00:42 years old. Matt and Jackie McGinley donated the massive tree from their

00:46 front yard in Vestal, New York near Binghamton. On November 29th they're

00:51 going to be lighting the tree and very generously the folks here at Rockefeller

00:55 Center have invited us to join them for that experience with some of our friends

00:59 and family. We cannot wait to see the tree all lit up and just the craftsmanship

01:04 that will have gone into making it not just a tree in our backyard but really

01:08 the world's tree. I like it. The tree will be wrapped in more than 50,000

01:15 multi-colored LED lights on approximately five miles of wire. This

01:20 year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place on

01:23 November 29th.
