00:00 Hi everybody, happy holidays.
00:03 Oh, by the way, I'm Kristen Chenoweth and you are watching Life Minute.
00:07 To me, whenever Josh and I put up our tree and we put on Christmas records that we love
00:13 and we have hot chocolate and we wear our Christmas onesies, that's when Christmas starts.
00:18 But we've actually started early because I even have an advent calendar and you know
00:23 you're not supposed to start that now, but I started it last night.
00:26 I couldn't wait anymore.
00:27 So I'm just ready.
00:28 I think like a lot of people in the world, we're ready for some cheer and some joy because
00:34 things can look pretty dismal, but they're still fun to be had.
00:39 And it's okay to focus on those times because we have enough of the other.
00:46 So Christmas is coming at a good time this year.
00:49 And I don't know if you've heard, but I am partnering with Command as their partner in
00:54 cheer to show you how easily Command can help make the holidays magical.
00:59 And one of the things that they're doing this year, this cool contest, which I'm all aboard,
01:03 it's so fun.
01:04 All you have to do is follow Command on Instagram, step one.
01:09 Step two, tag a Merrymaker in the comments of the pin post.
01:12 And then step three, Command will pick the winners and the winners can receive things
01:17 like a $25,000 cash prize.
01:20 They will win other products by Command, which I think is super cool.
01:23 I've been using their products since I was in college.
01:26 They make things so much easier, especially around holiday time when you want to focus
01:30 on what's really important and you don't want to stress out.
01:33 When you tag your Merrymaker, you can tell some of the comments as to why you chose them.
01:39 And a Merrymaker can be someone like my own mother.
01:43 My mother brings joy and light to everybody she meets, especially around the holidays.
01:49 She's the one in charge of decorating.
01:51 She's the one that makes it so easy so that she can focus on what's important.
01:55 And so if I were doing that contest, I would nominate my mom.
01:58 But of course, the next two months, I will be gearing up to do a lot of Christmas concerts,
02:03 both with just my band or with an orchestra.
02:06 And so people can go on my website and find out where I'm going to be.
02:09 I just was in Santa Barbara.
02:11 Next week, I'll be in San Francisco.
02:13 So it's one of the more fun parts of my job is getting to go to different cities and share
02:20 what Christmas is like at my house and just letting people get to know me as a person,
02:25 not just as a singer or an actor, but who Kristen Chenoweth really is.
02:31 Because I'm not hiding behind a role.
02:33 I'm just doing my show.
02:35 And I bring in singers and great musicians.
02:39 And I promise it's a fun time to be had by all.
02:43 You know, usually at the holidays, that's my big working time.
02:47 But this year, I decided it's our first Christmas and first Thanksgiving.
02:52 I'm not going to do any parades.
02:53 I'm not going to do some concerts.
02:55 I'm going to just spend time with my family.
02:58 So on Thanksgiving, we go to Josh's house in Arkansas.
03:02 And Christmas, we go to Oklahoma for my family.
03:06 So I think this year, we really want to be close to the people that are closest to us,
03:11 you know, to go going home, but also just being home means being with your people.
03:17 And we want to celebrate our first holiday season that way.
03:21 Popular.
03:22 I'll help you be popular.
03:26 You know, to look back 20 years ago, it seems like it was yesterday in a lot of ways.
03:30 And then it also seems like it was 100 years ago.
03:33 You know what I mean with how time tricks the mind.
03:36 But wow, was it cool to celebrate all that and to see other cast members, you know, that
03:41 we've known through the years.
03:43 And just to see, honestly, that other women have really scored in these roles.
03:51 And I looked at Adina in the show and I said, you know, we have to give ourselves a little
03:56 credit here that people do so well.
04:00 It's because of all the homework and all the preparation and all the things that we went
04:05 through creating these parts.
04:07 And we're so glad that people just love it.
04:11 And if you're talking about stage, I'd have to say Candide.
04:18 That's probably my favorite.
04:31 It's a beautiful Leonard Bernstein operetta.
04:35 It was filmed for PBS Great Performances with the New York City Philharmonic.
04:39 So you can watch it, but it's opera, but it's comedy in nature.
04:45 And it's also very meaningful.
04:46 It's performed in English.
04:48 And I just love the meaning of it, especially nowadays.
04:53 I'm really proud of that.
04:54 It utilized all my skills as a soprano, as a comedian.
04:59 I'm working on a new Broadway show called The Queen of Versailles.
05:02 It is based on the documentary movie, The Queen of Versailles, about Jackie Siegel and
05:07 her family.
05:09 And we're perfecting that.
05:10 Stephen Schwartz, who wrote Wicked, is also doing this show.
05:14 So it reunites us together.
05:18 And we're working on it now so we can get it into Broadway within a year.
05:22 So fingers crossed.
05:25 I wish I could tell you that I was really excited that I go to concerts all the time
05:29 and that I go to museums and Broadway shows.
05:31 And I do enjoy those things.
05:33 But because I'm on the road a lot, I literally like to-- here's my dream night with Josh.
05:39 We lay in bed with our dog, and we download something on Netflix, and we binge watch something.
05:46 We order in our favorite food, and we just chill.
05:50 And I know that's not exciting, but that's kind of what I do to chill out, because I
05:55 work all the time.
05:56 And I love that.
05:57 I'm not complaining.
05:58 I'm very grateful for that.
05:59 But I do like to just chill out.
06:02 I also want to just tell, especially women out there, a lot of what you see with me has
06:07 to do with genes.
06:09 I have good genes.
06:10 And sometimes, I didn't get height.
06:12 So I didn't get the height gene.
06:14 I didn't get the math gene.
06:16 But skin, I got pretty good skin.
06:18 I got lucky.
06:19 But there are products that I use that I believe that really help.
06:24 I really love-- there's a Lancome body cream that I just lather myself in, especially this
06:29 time of year.
06:30 I'm so dry.
06:31 I'm also a big firm believer in just a cheap brand at the Rite Aid or Walgreens or CVS.
06:39 It's called Bio Oil.
06:41 And I put it in wrinkles.
06:44 And I don't think makeup companies want us to know about it.
06:47 But just a little dab will do you on areas that you find like, oh, no, I wish I didn't--
06:53 I wish I weren't aging there.
06:56 And I just put it in there at night.
06:57 And I think it makes a difference.
06:59 I can't prove it.
07:01 But I feel a difference.
07:02 I'm also a big believer in water, drinking liquids all throughout the day.
07:08 I'm sitting here with my water now.
07:09 I drink, drink, drink.
07:11 It's great hydration.
07:13 Anything that hydrates.
07:14 Eating pineapple and grapes, getting a decent amount of sleep.
07:18 All these things are hard, especially on the holiday season.
07:22 But if you can just take a minute for yourself, these things will make you feel better.
07:26 Bye bye.
