2010 New York: Scion iQ and tC Video

Detroit Editor Todd Lassa is on hand to talk about the new Scion iQ and tC at the 2010 New York Auto Show

00:00 This TC continues on the same platform as the original car.

00:10 It's a European market car that has been adapted for the US market, but there's a lot of new

00:16 stuff.

00:17 While the old model had the old 2.4 liter four cylinder engine, the new TC which launches

00:22 this fall as a 2011 model gets the 2.5 liter engine from Toyota's new family of large size

00:28 four cylinder engines.

00:30 It gets a 11 horsepower bump to 180 horsepower versus the old engine.

00:35 And you'll have a choice of either a six speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission.

00:39 The automatic comes with paddle shifters.

00:41 There's been a bit of tweaking both inside and out.

00:43 The sheet metal's all new.

00:45 They've tried to make it look a little more muscular, a little more male oriented if you

00:48 will.

00:49 The front end's pretty handsome.

00:50 I see a little bit of Toyota FT86 in this car, even though this one's front drive of

00:55 course, the FT86, the new concept that will be a production sports car is rear wheel drive.

01:01 Now inside you've got a new dashboard, new high bolster seats, and a steering wheel with

01:08 a flat bottom like a racing car steering wheel.

01:11 The other car they showed here at the New York Auto Show is the IQ.

01:15 This is again based on a European model that's been out for a little while.

01:19 It comes here early next year.

01:21 The original European model is sold with a one liter engine.

01:25 The IQ sold here will come with a 1.3 liter engine making, according to Toyota, at least

01:29 90 horsepower and at least 85 pound feet of torque.

01:34 CVT transmission will be the only choice.

01:37 It's a very small car, 120.1 inches long.

01:40 It'll be the smallest four seater on the market.

01:43 And the front passenger seat is canted up forward from the front driver's seat to give

01:49 that rear passenger behind the front passenger a little bit more leg room.

01:53 And to mitigate safety concerns it comes with 10 airbags including first for the industry

02:00 rear airbag for the rear window.

02:02 So there you have the new Scion TC, the Scion IQ.
