00:06 Columbus, Ohio is the place, and the main stage event is the Good Guys Nationals.
00:11 It's a car party with a whole fleet of cool activities, fun for everybody in the family.

00:19 You know, man, the Good Guys events, it's become the family event, it really has.
00:24 You come out here, you got good music, you got good cars.
00:28 We have kids areas throughout here, we've got clowns here, we've got bands playing,
00:31 and there's music, there's swap meet, there's everything for anybody here to do.
00:36 People come here to buy parts to build all these cars.
00:38 Everything you see here has been bought probably at some of these shows.
00:41 In just nine short years, this gathering has become one of the most populated automotive
00:45 events on earth, featuring dozens of awards and thousands of cars, customs, street rods,
00:52 Hot Rods, and more.
00:58 I bought the car about five years ago out of Kentucky, and I always wanted a Judge TTO
01:03 because I owned one back when I was 20 years old.
01:06 It was in rough shape.
01:07 After I had a sandblasted, then I really knew how rough it was, but there's nothing like
01:12 bringing them back to life.
01:13 And it took about four years to get it restorated and back to original.
01:18 And you can't miss this classic bright orange paint job.
01:21 The original factory color.
01:23 I guess it's the bright color, you know.
01:26 Some people don't like that bright orange look, you know, but I loved it from the first
01:31 time I'd seen the car.
01:33 Here comes the Judge.
01:34 That's what I hear all the time, you know.
01:35 Here comes the Judge, and people give me nods or a thumbs up, you know, stuff like that.
01:41 It's great.
01:42 You feel as big as the car looks.
01:46 This event is open to hot rods, customs, classics, and street machines, all made before 1973.
01:53 Of course, many giants of the aftermarket are also here.
01:56 Vendors and fellow enthusiasts eager to keep all those great rides both cool and running.
02:02 That's one of the other reasons to come to an event like this, to check out all the cool
02:07 new toys for your ride.
02:10 This year we brought the '73 Challenger out here because we had just developed a new four
02:14 bar suspension for the Challengers.
02:16 It's a bolt-in four link assembly.
02:17 We want to put it up in the air, let people come under, take a look at it, and we're actually
02:20 doing an install here at the show.
02:23 You bolt them on just like you bolt on a regular shock, knowing that the shock wave is a air
02:28 bag and a shock absorber in one unit.
02:31 But I noticed on the shock wave too, Rodney, that it's adjustable.
02:35 Is that the shock that's adjustable?
02:36 Well, the air spring's adjustable too with air pressure, and then the shock, the damping
02:42 is adjustable itself too where you can stiffen the shock or soften the shock.
02:47 Today's good guys judges have some tough choices as they scrutinize cars competing for several
02:52 awards in various classes.
02:55 We're in the pros pick area here, and basically we're going around and there's some judges
03:00 that will be judging the street machine of the year.
03:02 They'll be judging the street rod of the year out of here.
03:05 Plus they'll be doing other picks for special awards.
03:08 There's a lot of stuff that's happening in this area alone.
03:12 One of the major awards of the event is for street machine of the year.
03:16 It'll be a tough decision to make once you get a look at all of these cool and one of
03:19 a kind street machines here at the nationals.
03:23 On the judging part of it, I mean, yeah, it's fitment, it's the way that they put the car
03:28 together, it's the cleanliness of it, the way it all fits and works right together.
03:33 Street rod of the year is another huge award that'll be given out.
03:36 A prize going to some truly radical contenders.
03:45 These awards are just a few that are given out each and every year at the good guys nationals.
03:49 The event that also has dozens of other awards from vendors and sponsors.
03:54 They're automotive folks as car crazy as the owners of all these rides.
04:00 Pigantifreeze is one of those sponsors with an award many here want to have.
04:05 New award for this year is called the Peak Definition of Cool Award.
04:08 Really, there's no set criteria for it, but we work with good guys here and the judges
04:12 and really go around the event to just find the car that gets it right.
04:18 It's hard to define exactly what that definition of cool is, but it's a combination of things.
04:22 It could be the right stance, the right paint, the right wheels, the right look.
04:27 Sometimes it's a professionally built car and sometimes it's a garage built car.
04:32 If everything's right with it, it gets the definition of cool award.

04:46 I like the style and I like the coupes.
04:48 They're a sharp car.
04:50 I never had one when I was a kid, so it's one of those pipe dream deals.
04:55 My kids are growing, so it's my chance to play again.
04:58 It's not 100% original, but put new wiring in it.

05:02 I had to rebuild the transmission.
05:03 The way you see it, it's the way it was.
05:09 Attending this good guys show gives you the chance to see some beautiful and unique cars.

05:22 My favorite muscle car of all is the '69 Camaro.
05:25 I absolutely love the streaks coming off the wheel wells.
05:27 We just did a few things to it.
05:29 We got the big power underneath the hood and just dressed it up.
05:33 It's all brand new from bumper to bumper where you've got modern convenience and technology
05:38 underneath that gorgeous skin.
05:41 We kind of foosed it in a way with the lower of the valance and the grill change and the
05:45 nose puller on back and the paint scheme.
05:49 Tips did his magic.
05:50 He came up with a great rendering and Kevin and I set on a path to go build the first
05:55 one and from there we grabbed the attention of Good Guys and today we're here to give
06:03 away the Good Guys 2006 giveaway car.
