Rep. Matt Getz (R-FL) spoke with the press on Tuesday about meeting with Hunter Biden special counsel David Weiss.
Transcript
00:00 Not much. Mr. Weiss was here incarnate, but not particularly in spirit. Anytime we had
00:06 any question about any communication regarding the Department of Justice or Mr. Braves, he
00:14 would demur and say that it was just part of his deliberative process. Well, the reason
00:18 Congress has questions is because that deliberative process has resulted in some pretty bizarre
00:23 outcomes that we can't explain to our constituents. And we think that Mr. Weiss has been pretty
00:28 evasive in just deeming everything deliberative. Was he, did he say that he always had ultimate
00:34 charging authority in the case? Well, it was interesting. Mr. Weiss reflected on his authorities,
00:41 but then when we asked about the influences on those authorities, were there emails or
00:45 meetings where people tried to move him in one direction or another, he was entirely
00:50 recalcitrant. Was he asked specifically about the Shapley testimony about that October 7th
00:56 meeting? Did he respond? We're getting a little earlier in the timeline. Is he, is he saying
01:01 that he's not discussing those things because it's an ongoing investigation? That's right.
01:04 Well, and Mr. Weiss is saying, oh, well, there'll be a day one day when I'll have a report and
01:09 in the report you'll see everyone I talked to and the things that impacted our decisions.
01:14 But we want to know those things now. And we have testimony from other people, including
01:18 Mr. Graves, that the collaboration here wasn't what you would typically see in a Department
01:24 of Justice matter, that there was this Delaware way, right? Where the Bidens were treated
01:28 like Delaware royalty. And, uh, you know, Mr. uh, Mr. Weiss has not provided any real
01:34 visibility into that process. What, if anything, did you get answers on? Almost nothing. I
01:40 mean, to the point that if we even asked Mr. Weiss how his correspondence and communications
01:47 with the Department of Justice worked, he wouldn't even tell us whether or not they
01:51 were or weren't by email. So it wasn't just that Mr. Weiss wasn't answering questions
01:57 about the substance of his discussions with other prosecutors and people at DOJ. He wouldn't
02:02 even address the medium of those discussions, which I think shows how opaque he's truly
02:08 being. Was there any discussion of his timeline of when he might be able to wrap up his investigation?
02:15 It was very obtuse. There was no real, there was no real clear assessment of that, that
02:21 I was able to believe. Was he asked whether he was stonewalled or slow-walked in any way
02:25 and how did he respond to those questions? Yeah, he reflected on his authority being
02:32 vast and broad, but within the envelope of that authority, there are a number of decisions
02:38 that have to be made. We're concerned that those decisions were made corruptly in order
02:42 to protect the Biden family. And if we're unable to get any substance, you know, regarding
02:48 those discussions or deliberations, then it's a real roadblock for us.
