Revealing the contents of a one hundred year time capsule at Wingham Town Hall

00:00 Good morning, my name is Terry Gould and I'm with the Wingham RSL sub-branch

00:04 and it's my pleasure to be here today to show you the original time capsule that was placed

00:11 in this hall on the 16th of November 1923. It's a full lead box made by a member of the

00:21 Wingham community for the occasion and we're proud to say that the contents did survive the 100 years

00:28 and will be revealed on the 25th of November this year. My name is Maeve, I'm president of the

00:36 Manning Valley Historical Society and an affiliate member of the Wingham RSL sub-branch and it's my

00:42 pleasure to be part of the team that have followed up this project to find, retrieve the capsule,

00:50 the original capsule and to place in the future this capsule that we are going to be working on

00:57 for content to be opened in the next 100 years. So we're celebrating a lot of things by our event

01:04 on the 25th at two o'clock at the Memorial Town Hall and we hope people will support us and come

01:10 along to a once in a lifetime event. I've mentioned that it's a once in a lifetime event but in the

01:17 last 100 years so many changes are reflected in just the documents and the materials that are in

01:24 the original time capsule and who's to say what changes there'll be in the next 100 years,

01:30 particularly with IT and a whole range of other things and it's an inspiration from the past,

01:36 their commitment, their dedication to honour the service personnel and in our times to honour all

01:45 those service personnel since World War One and of course in the future let's hope that there are not

01:51 the need for these sorts of memorials in time to come. Among other things on the day of our event

01:58 on the 25th of November there will be at least eight descendants of the original people who

02:04 organised the construction and the funding and the fundraising to build this Memorial Town Hall.

02:11 Those people will remembering their ancestors, one of whom is the original architect of this building

02:19 and they will be part of the memorial service we'll have prior to the celebration concert.

02:26 So it's a very special event, it's quite magic as somebody's mentioned the term to me

02:31 and one that in our lifetime is not going to happen again.

02:37 So come along and pay homage to the past and inspire the future.
