00:03Congratulations, tell us about the role
00:04Club Taree played as an evacuation centre for the town.
00:07Yeah, look, during the 2025 May flood event,
00:10it was a 1 in 500 year flood for Taree,
00:13and it was our honour to play the role as the authorised evacuation centre.
00:18Over that time we welcomed hundreds of people through the club doors,
00:21and it was our role to keep them safe,
00:24keep them secure, offer them a sense of compassion,
00:26our place of familiarity, and a safe place to be.
00:30What does this award mean for the club?
00:33Look, this award is, I guess it's a testament to my team
00:38for the efforts they put through in that time.
00:41Sleeping on site for 24 hours a day
00:43just to take care of those hundreds of people that were on site.
00:47We were out evacuating nursing homes,
00:48we were out picking up people on the side of the roads.
00:50But on the flip side of that,
00:51at the end we were also taking people back to their homes for the first time,
00:54and we were there first hand to witness the devastation
00:56that those floods had had in effect to their home.
01:00And we're often the only person there to give them a hug
01:02or give them some reassurance or point them in the right direction.
01:05And to us it's always the greatest honour to be at the evacuation centre,
01:08it's also the greatest honour to be there in those most difficult moments
01:10for members of our community.
01:12Thank you for having me,
01:12mysteriously demŘł procedurally.
01:12Thank you very much,
01:13Thank you Aiaren Malmac.
01:14Thank you very much.
