Malaysia is in talks with Turkiye over a possible bilateral agreement in developing space technology, said Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.

The science, technology and innovation deputy minister said the cross-governmental discussions were being spearheaded by the Malaysian Space Agency (Mysa), together with Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT).

00:04 Technology and Innovation, or MOSTI, through the Malaysian Space Agency, or MISA, has developed
00:11 the State-Based Space Activity Plan 2030, also known as Malaysia Space Exploration 2030,
00:20 or MSE 2030, to promote the development of the country's space sector, which contributes
00:28 to the growth of the new and strategic economy. Under MSE 2030, MISA has carried out a study
00:37 on the space industry ecosystem, with the aim of ensuring the availability and capability
00:46 of space industry involvement in the country's space sector activities.
00:51 "To gather space industry players to build the country's space industry, the Malaysian
00:58 Industry Government Group for High Technology, or MIGHT, has established the Malaysian Space
01:05 Industry Corporation, or MASIC. So far, as many as 10 space technology companies have
01:12 joined to form MASIC, with the aim of creating a dynamic space industry ecosystem that promotes
01:19 Malaysia's space industry, alongside attracting investment, talent and sharing from around
01:26 the world. In addition, MISA, together with MIGHT, has also started discussions on
01:32 bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Turkey in space technology. This cooperation
01:38 will lay the foundation for the sharing of expertise and talent development to create
01:44 a space industry that is able to be a global leader in space technology."
01:49 "MISA will continue to support the country's space development programme in cooperation
01:56 with private sector, which will be a driver of the space industry development. It will
02:03 certainly face new goals and improve the programme through RFP, or Request for Proposal,
02:10 to the private sector, which is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2023. And it is
02:16 estimated that the satellite of the far-away country will be launched in 2025 or 2026.
