A 30-year-old teacher has been remanded for six days after allegedly slashing his wife in their Sungai Ara home in Balik Pulau, Penang.

Police said the 6am attack was triggered by the suspect’s financial troubles, including stock investment loans and e-commerce instalment debts.

00:00A 30-year-old teacher accused of slashing his wife has been remanded for six days to

00:09The magistrate's court in Balikpulau issued the order after the suspect allegedly attacked
00:14his wife in their bedroom at Taman Tunas Muda, Songhai Ara on Wednesday.
00:20Magistrate Zairin Zainuddin granted the remand from Saturday until September 4 under Section
00:25307 of the Penal Code for Attempted Murder.
00:29The suspect, who arrived at the Balikpulau court complex in a police vehicle at about
00:349.15am, appeared sombre with his left hand bandaged up to the elbow and stitches visible
00:40on his neck.
00:43Investigations revealed the 6am incident was sparked by financial troubles.
00:47Southwest District Police Chief ACP Sazali Adharm said the suspect had taken out bank loans
00:53for stock investments and was burdened with instalment payments for goods bought via e-commerce
