00:20 There was brief hope on Monday with reports that a temporary ceasefire was agreed.

00:25 But Hamas and Israel both quickly denied a deal had been made.

00:30 Humanitarian agencies warn disaster is looming.

00:35 As far as water, electricity and fuel are concerned, according to the UN and the Red

00:41 Cross Red Crescent, after 24 hours it will be a real catastrophe.

00:46 No fuel, therefore no electricity, for all of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip in general

00:52 and for the medical establishments in particular.

00:57 While trucks idle on the Egyptian side of the border, Gaza residents with foreign passports

01:06 Even to them, the crossing remains firmly shut.

01:12 We contact the embassy every day and they tell us to go to the crossing.

01:15 We wait for five, six, seven, eight hours and then we go back.

01:19 The journey is not safe.

01:20 There is no truce.

01:21 We are travelling in danger.

01:24 There is no safety.

01:25 Even when you're at the crossing you're afraid.

01:27 On our way to the crossing they shelled Rafa's street and we started screaming.

01:31 We came to the crossing and thought it was safe.

01:33 Nowhere is safe in Gaza.

01:35 Wherever we go there's shelling, shelling, crying, screaming, blood.

01:39 The UN's humanitarian chief says he's in deep discussions with Israel and Egypt.

01:44 He'll be in the region on Tuesday to try to negotiate the passage of aid.

01:49 In the meantime, the waiting continues on both sides of the fence.
