00:53 It's the Arboretum's long been one of my favorite places
00:56 in the ACT and I drive around this space a lot
01:01 in my daily journey in and out of work.
01:05 And I often come here to play with my children
01:10 at the playground and go to the kite festival.
01:14 And I've long been a very passionate tree planter.
01:18 Many years ago, I planted over 2,500 trees
01:21 along the Mount Bidgee River within a short time.
01:26 And since that time, I often plant trees
01:29 as an acknowledgement of people's babies' birth
01:32 as well as passing away of people's lives.
01:35 So the ideas drawing breath for this work came
01:40 so that from sort of the stages of the source
01:44 of the Arboretum where it sort of appeared
01:47 just after the drastic bushfires
01:49 and how the Canberra community really held together
01:52 and supported each other during that time
01:54 and almost planting the seeds of new trees,
01:58 especially sort of precious endangered trees in this space.
02:03 It's a really sort of healing time for the Canberra community
02:06 and something, you know, when we're on the sort of
02:10 the future of climate change and the concerns
02:12 that that brings our community,
02:14 it's a really enriching, hopeful sort of process
02:17 to go through and sort of not only for our own generation,
02:20 but our children and grandchildren's future.
02:23 Yeah, the artwork will be made out of three major elements.
02:28 They're very, they're abstracted,
02:30 but they're very organic forms,
02:32 capturing sort of the ripples of the surface of the water,
02:35 but also the contours of the land gathering,
02:39 flowing down into the dam, the front dam of the Arboretum.
02:44 It'll be powder coated in like a soft white,
02:47 which is a very sort of sensitive material
02:50 to the changing quality of the light from,
02:52 so dawn, morning light, right throughout the day
02:55 and into the sunset colours.
02:57 So in the afternoon sunset time of the day,
03:02 the soft pinks and oranges and yellows
03:04 will sort of be reflected off the material.
03:07 And so you'll be able to see not only the shadows
03:10 of the work dancing across the surface of the water,
03:13 but also the reflections.
03:15 We're investigating ways of subtly lighting the work
03:19 at night, so it'll sort of glow and hum at night
03:22 in this sort of being cradled in the valley.
