00:00 Okay and Rebecca, how does it feel to be here today and what are the key messages you get to promote?
00:04 Yeah it's absolutely a pleasure to be here at the Primary School Conference, up here organised by the school games organisers
00:11 and it's just fantastic for us, obviously a learn to swim company, we're used to talking to parents, we're used to engaging with parents
00:17 but actually it's fundamental that we talk to schools as well. Schools obviously is part of the national curriculum to learn how to swim
00:24 so it's a pleasure to be here talking about all the different challenges that all different schools face, whether it's accessibility to pools,
00:31 it's funding, it's kind of breaking down those barriers and making sure children have the access to swim pools that we need them to.
00:38 It's a fundamental life skill so it's a real pleasure to be here.
00:42 Okay and Ian, can you start by asking what today's conference is all about then?
00:46 Today's conference is a celebration of PE and activity in the city of Sunderland.
00:50 We have a great turnout of over 80 delegates from the PE leads, head teachers, counsellors
00:57 and we're here to just celebrate the great work PE leads do and hopefully talk a little bit about activity as well in the daily curriculum.
01:06 And just how important is it that kids develop another foundation for keeping them fit and healthy when they're in primary school?
01:10 It's probably never been more important than it is now. The latest data that we have for Sunderland is horrific.
01:16 At the minute we have about 24% of our children begin their school life at reception age and they're already classified as being overweight or obese
01:26 and that figure rises so that by the age of 11 we have 40% of children in Sunderland are reaching that figure of being overweight or obese.
01:36 And what's it like to have someone like Rebecca here today to support this?
01:39 It's really inspirational and we're delighted to have Rebecca here today and she's going to speak to the conference and be talking about her experiences
01:47 and hopefully she'll be inspiring PE leads to go back to their schools and try and make a difference for the children in their care.
01:54 It's a stupid old clock at like 2am so if anyone did get up, well done to you as not many people do.
02:01 So it was one of those for myself, I swam the 400 heat and I managed to qualify for the final and I kind of came out of that swim going
02:09 well I've done everything I came here to do now, all I wanted to do was make the final.
02:13 So it was a really weird process then coming to an Olympic Games going well I've achieved everything I wanted to
02:20 and kind of just then going to bed and then waking up in the morning I found the whole process quite bizarre to be honest.
02:26 And I woke up the next morning ready for the final and I woke up feeling horrific.
02:31 Like do you know those mornings where your alarm goes off?
