First Annual Super Street Show Car Shootout!

The first annual Super Street showcar shootout by Continental Tire was an event that combines the best of the show car scene with the thrills of driving on a racetrack. The Show Car Shootout is an open invitation to anyone with a fast show car to take their car to the track and see what it can do. We allowed everything from Supra’s to Lancer EVO’s to WRX Sti’s to Godzilla aka the GT-R to compete in this event. The rules are very simple

00:10 Hey guys, it's Mike Cibucci here, and we're coming to you live from

00:25 Speedway for the first annual Super Street Show Car Shootout.

00:30 This is where we invite anyone with a show car who thinks they got the balls

00:34 enough to drive to come to the track and prove it.

00:37 We got everything from GTRs, WRXs, Evos, it's a packed field out there.

00:44 And the times are pretty fast today, so let's check it out.

00:47 In our inaugural Show Car Shootout,

00:51 we decided to break the event up into two separate days.

00:54 The first day puts the drivers up against the clock in a time attack challenge.

00:58 [MUSIC]

01:03 Day two takes us to the drag strip to see who can put down the fastest quarter

01:08 mile time.

01:09 But first, let's see if these show car owners can keep the pedal to the floor and

01:13 set the fastest time of the day at the time attack course.

01:16 So this being the first Super Street Show Car Shootout,

01:21 we figured we'd hop in our Rocket Bunny FRS and

01:24 give you a course preview so you can see what the drivers are seeing.

01:29 Course starts off with a nice little chicane in the very beginning right off

01:32 the front straight.

01:33 [MUSIC]

01:35 Got a chicane here.

01:36 As always, you wanna take a proper racing line through these corners,

01:40 especially when it's back to back to back because it's really gonna screw you up

01:44 for the next corner.

01:45 [MUSIC]

01:48 Brake in, downshift, dive into the next corner.

01:51 [MUSIC]

01:54 There's another braking point here.

01:55 Downshift, come in.

01:58 [MUSIC]

02:00 You wanna take this corner a little shallow so it sets you up for

02:03 the next corner.

02:04 These cones point to where you need to go.

02:07 Clip that inner apex.

02:11 And then this back straight, you can really get going pretty dang fast.

02:21 Woo-hoo-hoo, we're booking.

02:23 [MUSIC]

02:26 We're here with Dai Yoshihara.

02:28 And of course, we had to bring out a hot shoe driver in our own car for

02:34 our own event, so we called this guy.

02:36 [MUSIC]

02:39 Daijiro Yoshihara was one of the most accomplished drivers in the field,

02:43 with his years of experience driving just about everything that moves,

02:47 Dai was expected to put down one of the fastest times of the day.

02:50 But first, we asked Dai what it takes to be fast on this course inside our

02:55 supercharged Rackabunny FR-S.

02:57 [MUSIC]

03:07 So how's it going, man?

03:14 How's the car handling today?

03:15 >> It was fine.

03:16 I just drove in this car first time at the track.

03:19 And I guess this car hasn't been in a track in the past.

03:21 >> Ever.

03:22 >> So I didn't expect anything good, to be honest.

03:26 But it was good.

03:28 It's very easy to control, pretty straightforward.

03:31 No any problem.

03:33 I can just go lap for like ten laps in a row and then-

03:36 >> See that, people?

03:37 >> I overheated.

03:38 >> See that? We know how to build cars here at Super Street.

03:40 Which brings us to why we're doing a show car shootout.

03:44 We're doing a show car shootout here because not only do we want cars to look

03:47 good on the street, but case in point, we want you to prove it.

03:50 We want your car to drive good on the track.

03:52 And according to Dai, our car drives pretty good.

03:56 >> Yeah.

03:56 >> For sure.

03:57 [MUSIC]

04:00 >> Now that we got a little taste of what the drivers are seeing on the track,

04:03 let's check in and see how they're handling our time attack format.

04:06 [MUSIC]

04:16 Andre Pham put down a solid one minute 21 seconds .959 in his S2000.

04:27 That put him smack dab in the middle in fifth place in his S2000.

04:32 Chris Hadlestain was right on his tail in his 2011 SDI, putting him in fourth place.

04:38 [MUSIC]

04:41 Daijiro Yoshihara secured a spot on the podium in third place in our

04:45 supercharged Rocket Bunny FRS.

04:47 [MUSIC]

04:50 Daniel Levitz and his angry LS swap 240SX threw down a blistering

04:55 one minute 16 second .630, which left him sitting happy in second place.

05:02 At the end of the day, it was Matt Powers and the Stroker V8 swapped 135i.

05:07 It took the top spot with a time of one minute 16 seconds .093.

05:11 [MUSIC]

05:21 >> Overall, I think it went really well.

05:24 >> Yeah.

05:25 >> We had a couple cars break down, but that's expected in racing.

05:28 And I think we have some really fast times that were unexpected.

05:32 >> It's safe to say that day one of our first ever show car shootout was

05:37 a huge success.

05:38 The drivers threw down some very fast times.

05:40 There were no accidents, and most importantly, everyone had a blast.

05:44 Now the teams have less than 12 hours to prep their cars and

05:47 get back to the track for phase two of the show car shootout.

05:50 Day two of the Continental Tire Show Car Shootout takes us to the drag strip,

05:58 where our contenders see who can get the quickest quarter mile time.

06:37 >> All right, so Marco, can you tell us a little bit about your car?

06:40 I noticed you have some carbon fiber bits on it, but

06:42 this is the craziest 135 I've ever seen.

06:44 >> So it originally started out as a 135, and

06:47 then I did the OEM 1M body work on the car, essentially turning it into a 1M clone.

06:52 And then I took it a little bit further and

06:55 combined the best bits off an E92 M3 to make a V8 swap 1M clone.

06:59 >> Nice, nice.

07:00 What was the fastest time you took though?

07:01 >> 12.8.

07:02 >> Wow, okay.

07:10 Continental Tire Show Car Shootout.

07:54 I brought this R1 Concept GTR, and I gotta say, it was pretty fun.

08:05 I'm a big fan of Continental Tires.

08:07 I think they make the best tires in the world.

08:09 And I'm not a skilled driver, but I was able to put down a lot of power, and

08:12 I think I ran some pretty good times.
