Summer to end with cooldown in the Northwest

The final days of summer will feature a drop in temperatures and even some snow in the higher elevations of the northern Rockies.

00:02 a lot of us are going to be

00:04 feeling a drastic cool down,

00:06 especially when we compare temperatures

00:08 to where we topped out Sunday

00:10 afternoon into Spokane 78.

00:11 Portland and Oregon 89.

00:12 Boise hit 88 in Reno hit 89,

00:15 but our temperatures through today

00:17 only into the mid 60s.

00:19 Portland will get to the 70s.

00:21 It's all thanks to the big dip in the

00:24 jet stream here as we're talking about.

00:26 Temperatures running anywhere from

00:28 10 to 15 degrees below the historical

00:30 average so a bit unseasonably cool.

00:33 And cold enough for snow in the much

00:35 higher elevations into the mountains

00:36 are talking snow level 7 to 8000 feet,

00:39 but still a fun sight to see where

00:41 we're still technically in summer

00:43 temperatures staying well below

00:44 the historical average.

00:45 Helen only at 50 today would typically

00:47 we should be into the lower 70s.

00:49 Boise only at 65 in a Medford

00:52 temperatures stay into the 70s

00:53 and Salt Lake City only 65 degrees

00:55 today would typically we'd expect

00:57 the upper 70s into the day Friday.

00:59 Still talking about some snow into

01:01 parts of Idaho into Wyoming into

01:03 Montana as we follow the wet weather,

01:06 shifting a bit further to the east.

01:08 High pressure moving back in for

01:09 the end of our week,

01:11 bringing pretty pleasant conditions,

01:12 but temperatures will eventually

01:14 begin to warm up in some locations.

01:16 Boise back to the 70s this weekend,

01:18 but feeling that drop into Seattle

01:20 in Portland where temperatures

01:21 go from the 70s to the 60s.
