00:00 In the midst of the ongoing incidents in the West Philippine Sea and China's release of
00:06 the 10-line standard map that is almost breaking through the entire South China Sea, the Philippine
00:12 Armed Forces believes that it is time to release a new map.
00:17 This standard map will actually counter the narrative of the 10-line map that China has
00:23 just published.
00:24 The details of the map are limited until the task force releases the target map in the
00:29 next few days.
00:30 But it is possible that the names of maritime features on the map will also change.
00:35 I heard this new map will now carry all Filipino names for all our features in the West Philippine
00:40 Sea.
00:41 For the DFA legal team in the Philippine arbitration case against China, Ambassador Henry Ben Surto
00:48 will serve as a guide for the new standard map that will show the maritime entitlement
00:52 of the Philippines.
00:53 It is important that we have a map that we can understand for our fellow Filipinos, for
01:01 our fishermen, for our law enforcement.
01:05 Ben Surto said that because of the 2016 arbitral ruling, the maritime entitlement of the country
01:10 has become clearer.
01:11 From baseline, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, contiguous zone, co-exclusive economic
01:16 zone, continental shelf, and extended continental shelf.
01:19 It is a map that is consistent with international law.
01:23 That is important.
01:24 And if there is a problem with the new map of the Philippines, there are options that
01:27 the countries can do.
01:29 We can discuss it bilaterally with that country.
01:33 And if we don't agree, maybe we should consider the other mechanisms available under international
01:40 law, including arbitration, including mediation.
01:45 But the importance of the West Philippine Sea should not be thrown away from the map.
01:50 It is also necessary to take the opportunity to teach it in school.
01:54 This is important because this is how we will rebut China's claim.
01:58 It's all there.
01:59 All of these documents are there.
02:00 And we must teach our people.
02:04 Unfortunately the DepEd has not taken interest in this.
02:10 For some experts, the release of the new standard map of the Philippines is a way to
02:15 win the 2016 Arbitral Award, which has been unknown to China for a long time.
