00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 - Start our college football journey today
00:05 in Colorado and Deion.
00:07 Had a rivalry game last week with Nebraska, right?
00:10 Win, now another rivalry game,
00:12 Colorado State, cross state rivals.
00:15 Deion's just, you know,
00:16 he's getting caught up with all this stuff, Joe.
00:18 He only been on campus for a few months.
00:20 He's trying to get sure he knows
00:21 what the deal with all the rivals.
00:23 Here's Deion.
00:24 - You gotta give me one at a time.
00:25 Now you just got me all hyped up about the Nebraska thing.
00:28 You just bombarded me about that, right?
00:30 And this tradition, that was tremendous tradition.
00:32 Now you wanted me to understand
00:33 about the Rocket Mountain Showdown.
00:34 So you gotta give me some verbiage
00:37 or some literature on something, you know,
00:40 just to brief me, but trust me,
00:43 this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to that.
00:48 I think the Falcons and the Saints were quite a showdown,
00:51 as well as playing against the 49ers,
00:53 as well as the Cowboys, 49ers.
00:54 I can keep going, Cowboys, Philly, you know,
00:57 Cowboys, whoever, was always during showdown.
01:00 Baseball as well.
01:01 So it's always some type of adversity
01:04 that you have against someone in close proximity of you.
01:08 Yeah, I had two divorces,
01:10 which was a heck of a showdown too.
01:12 (audience laughing)
01:15 So don't tell me about the showdown.
01:17 - The showdown, the Deion with the showdowns, Joe.
01:20 I gotta tell you, I don't think that this rivalry
01:23 on Saturday night gonna be as close
01:25 as those Niner-Cowboy games that Deion played in.
01:28 I don't think it'll be as close as that game,
01:30 this one we got going on.
01:31 - Oh, Carver, I tell you what, showdown!
01:34 They'll be banging around.
01:36 There's a song like that back in the day.
01:38 I think Winger might have sang it, but I'll tell you this.
01:42 The first two games, TCU, Nebraska, Colorado abuses,
01:45 they cover, now there's a potential letdown spot
01:49 with who's on deck?
01:51 Bo Dacius, Bo Nixon, Oregon in week number four.
01:55 I'm not suggesting Colorado loses,
01:58 but to cover the 23 and a half point number
02:01 on a team that got blown out by Waush State week one,
02:05 I'll take the points with Colorado State.
02:08 - Wow, you're taking the rams, huh?
02:11 The games actually, and the games in Boulder.
02:14 They used to play this game in Denver, Joe, right?
02:17 They used to play the game in Mile High.
02:19 Now they play 'em on the campuses,
02:22 or they've gone back to playing them on the campuses.
02:24 - I like that.
02:25 - Here's why I'd lean to Colorado.
02:30 He's done everything he said he's gonna do so far,
02:34 and I think as much as all these coaches run around,
02:38 and they tell you how, they don't know the spread,
02:40 and they don't know this, and they don't know that,
02:42 and meanwhile, you know guys like Franklin do know it
02:44 when they pop in those touchdowns
02:46 with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter.
02:48 I think that Deion knows exactly
02:52 what people expect him to win by,
02:54 and I think he's going to exceed those expectations
02:58 if he has the opportunity to do it,
03:00 and I could see him, if his offense is humming
03:03 like it has the last two weeks,
03:06 I could see him dropping a real big number
03:10 on Colorado State on Saturday night, Joe.
03:12 A real big number.
03:13 - It's possible.
03:14 I just, and this is nothing against Deion.
03:16 I think he's done a fantastic job,
03:19 and I definitely think he's the right guy.
03:21 I mean, you know, only Deion could turn around this program
03:25 from the depths of the abyss.
03:27 When you think about, you know, the days of John Embry,
03:30 and Eric Bien-Ami, and Dan Hawkins.
03:32 Mike McIntyre was the only coach that got them
03:35 to 10 and three, and then Carl Durrell ran that program
03:39 right into the ground, but here's the problem, Carver.
03:42 We're talking about 18 to 22 year old kids.
03:45 You know, to get them up each and every week
03:48 is very difficult.
03:50 I'm not saying they're not gonna be motivated,
03:52 but you know, when you gear up
03:54 for the national championship runner-up,
03:56 you gear up for a team that Nebraska and Matt Rule
03:59 that called you out in terms of the off season.
04:02 You get up, you get up, and then there is
04:05 that one reset moment, and again, I'm not suggesting
04:09 they get pushed to the limit.
04:10 I'm just saying they could be up by 30
04:13 with three minutes left, and you get the back door,
04:15 and you lose it.
04:16 So I'm gonna take Colorado State here.
04:19 - I think that next week, Joe, is when we really
04:24 get to find out what Colorado's made of.
04:27 Now, they went on the road to TCU.
04:30 They beat 'em in that game, tight game, high scoring game,
04:33 lots of craziness.
04:34 I don't think we really know how good TCU is
04:38 compared to last year.
04:39 I don't think we're gonna find that out
04:40 until they start playing some of their big 12
04:42 conference games like they're going to this week,
04:45 but I think when we see Colorado and Deion
04:48 go on the road for the first time in conference
04:51 into Oregon, one of the best teams in the Pac-12,
04:55 I think that, Joe, is gonna be the real measuring stick,
04:58 and you know right now that number's already gone
05:02 from the mid-20s down to 14 1/2, and it's a week away.
05:06 People are gonna be running to the window
05:11 getting points with Deion in Colorado next week.
05:13 - Well, Carter, remember what Dan Lanning said
05:16 in the offseason?
05:18 - Yes.
05:19 - Last time, what was color?
05:22 What did they ever do in the Pac-12?
05:24 So there's already bulletin board material
05:27 for Deion and Shadur Sanders and Travis Hunter in that game.
