00:00 Now welcome our special envoy Jorge Sostoso who is in Johannesburg with the latest updates
00:04 from the BRICS Summit.
00:05 Let's listen.
00:06 Thank you.
00:07 What you could eventually hear in the background is the voice of the Secretary General of the
00:15 United Nations, Antonio Guterres, that he just conducted a press conference regarding
00:21 this 15th Summit of the BRICS here in Johannesburg, South Africa.
00:28 In the morning it has been officially announced the six new countries that become members
00:35 of BRICS.
00:36 We're talking Argentina, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran and also
00:44 we're talking Ethiopia.
00:48 Six countries that duplicate the number of countries of BRICS, which means that now BRICS
00:54 with 11 members, five plus six represent 46% of the world population, 36% of the GDP, a
01:04 GDP that already as of now is larger than the G7.
01:09 And what is very interesting is what during the morning that it was a session between
01:14 the leaders of the BRICS with guest leaders of countries considered friends of the BRICS.
01:20 We're talking about at least 40 people, most of them from different areas of Africa, but
01:27 also was the president of Cuba, for example, Diaz-Canel, president of Bolivia, Luis Arce,
01:36 to share views about what the BRICS become and what they expect and their concerns are.
01:44 And it was very interesting because among the different participants was the former
01:51 president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, which is the president of the New Development Bank.
01:56 In reality, the New Development Bank is the bank of the BRICS.
02:01 And she was stressing that they are trying to develop a new financial engineering to
02:10 relate all those countries and relate the relation between the bank and the lenders
02:15 in a different way, that not only the New Development Bank of the BRICS is going to
02:21 finance projects of the members of the BRICS, but also the members of the Global South.
02:30 We get back to you now.
