00:02 - Guys are getting paid in the NFL
00:04 before they even show up to training camp.
00:08 Who are we talking about?
00:09 Well, if you haven't heard,
00:09 Justin Herbert, yesterday, late last night,
00:12 the Chargers and Justin Herbert reached a landmark deal,
00:15 five years, $262.5 million,
00:19 which includes $100 million in guarantees due,
00:24 year number one.
00:26 The Chargers get their guys signed,
00:28 happy in camp and boy, oh boy, did he get paid, Joe.
00:32 - Well, you know, they knew this day was coming.
00:36 We knew this day was coming.
00:37 The funny part is, I mean, what,
00:39 average of about 52 and a half million a year,
00:43 kudos to Herbert.
00:45 You're nothing without a quarterback here.
00:47 Now, of course, whether he lives up to that,
00:49 that money remains to be seen.
00:51 Although, you know, to this point in his career,
00:54 it certainly hasn't been,
00:55 he hasn't been the reason why
00:57 there hasn't been a ton of postseason success there
01:00 for the Chargers, but now he's got his money
01:03 and boy, oh boy, now the,
01:06 it's always interesting when a guy gets paid,
01:08 Donnie, in a franchise like this,
01:11 they give him so much money and well-deserved,
01:15 but what do they have left to surround him with
01:17 is going to be the question.
01:19 And that's really the turning point.
01:21 Once they get away from those rookie contracts
01:24 to the big boy contracts,
01:26 okay, let's see how good this front office is now.
01:29 Let's see how much money you're going to have left over
01:31 to be able to surround this guy with some talent.
