00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 Brock Lesnar is set to take on Cody Rhodes at this year's Summerslam, currently promoted
00:12 as a singles match though reports indicate it'll most likely be a stipulation match
00:16 by the time the show actually rolls around.
00:18 I'm still going to vote for a dog collar match.
00:20 Lesnar's been something of a Mr. Summerslam over the years, main eventing a bunch of them
00:24 against people like Triple H, Undertaker, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, but
00:29 not CM Punk, obviously, can't have him in the main event.
00:32 It all started though back in 2002 when Brock won the WWE Championship from The Rock just
00:36 126 days after debuting in the company at Summerslam.
00:40 But this apparently was not the original plan, and instead that title win was originally
00:44 going to be saved for the following year's WrestleMania.
00:47 This comes from Paul Heyman, who was interviewed by Rick Rubin, where he said, "There was
00:50 a question of 'do we debut on Mania?'
00:52 And the decision was made, 'No, start on the day after Mania,' and let his first
00:56 Mania be in the main event a year later."
00:59 And that was supposed to be for the title, but we fast-tracked that, we got the title
01:02 on, and by Summerslam he was just, we were just moving, and Dwayne Johnson was going
01:06 off to Hollywood, so just the timing was perfect for us, and Steve Austin had left, so it was,
01:11 wow, we're going to anoint the next big thing.
01:14 Though it wasn't his first title win by that point, Lesnar would go on to beat Kurt
01:17 Angle for the belt at WrestleMania 19 anyway.
01:20 And the rest, as they say, is history.
01:23 Over in AEW though, it was Blood & Guts last night, which Oli will have a review of here
01:28 shortly.
01:29 Before last weekend's episode of Collision though, there was reportedly a talent meeting
01:32 in AEW.
01:34 This comes from Fightful Select, who also note that the meeting was led by none other
01:37 than Pepsi Phil himself, CM Punk.
01:40 The meeting reportedly was just for talent who regularly appear on Collision, and not
01:44 those on Dynamite, furthering that soft brand split in the company.
01:47 The meeting was reportedly about how Collision had differentiated itself from Dynamite, and
01:52 what a good thing that was.
01:53 And what they can do to help foster that feeling, including things like match finishes, shenanigans
01:58 and the like.
01:59 There were also other subjects reportedly covered, like the new safety guidelines from
02:02 the company, and working on promoting other AEW projects more, especially Fight Forever.
02:08 But something that doesn't need promoting more, from the looks of it, success, is NXT.
02:13 Featuring the still hilarious and still brilliant move of having Dominik Mysterio win the North
02:18 American Championship, this week's NXT sure got people talking, and sure seems to have
02:23 got people watching too, as the show drew an average of 746,000 viewers, with the Dominik
02:28 vs. Lee match specifically drawing well, averaging 844,000 viewers across its peak quarter hour.
02:35 And for those wondering, Judgment Day is reportedly slated to keep appearing on NXT going forward.
02:40 Dom isn't just going to hijack the title and take it to Raw.
02:43 This is reported by PWInsider Elite, who say that Judgment Day is expected to appear regularly
02:47 on NXT for at least the next month, past the Great American Bash show.
02:51 Dom Dom is a draw draw.
02:53 Now a message from this video's sponsor.
02:55 Pete, Pete, Pete!
02:56 Oh hi Oli, what's up?
02:58 The time has come.
03:00 That sounds ominous, time for what?
03:02 I'm going to rename the company.
03:04 This isn't some convoluted way to promote Surfshark is it?
03:07 Well Pete, this is a serious business decision I'm taking.
03:10 Ok, what's the company being renamed to?
03:15 Krausfros.
03:16 What?
03:17 Krausfros.
03:18 I thought you'd choose some three word name so you could shorten it down to a really cool
03:27 three letter initialism.
03:28 Those days are long behind me Pete, now it's all about...
03:31 Krausfros.
03:37 How do you even spell that anyways?
03:40 K-R-A-H-S.
03:41 Wait, there's an H in there?
03:45 Of course there's an H in there.
03:46 Wait, does that just spell Surfshark backwards?
03:49 Yeah it does!
03:51 Surfshark VPN is an online tool that keeps you safe wherever you browse by masking your
03:55 important information.
03:57 Which means you can check sensitive stuff like your bank account even on public Wi-Fi.
04:02 Surfshark keeps your location and download history private and encrypted, meaning you
04:05 can send or receive files securely too, like my ongoing spreadsheet of three letter acronyms
04:10 for the company.
04:11 On top of that, Surfshark also allows you access to any of 3,200 servers in over 100
04:17 countries - allowing you to fool your phone, laptop or tablet into thinking you're in
04:22 a different country.
04:23 Meaning you Americans can still get the old WWE Network.
04:27 I love you Superior Search Function!

04:48 We're not actually changing the name of the company to Krausfuss, are we?
04:53 No, we're not.
04:54 I just needed more time to come up with some three letter words.
04:56 Of course you did.
04:57 Well I've got another three initials for you, Pete.
05:01 A-E-W.
05:02 You like those initials, Pete?
05:04 Yeah.
05:05 Yeah you f***ing do.
05:07 Because here's my review of Shark Week Presents Blood & Guts AEW Dynamite - Blood & Guts,
05:12 presented by Shark Week… in about 5 minutes.
05:17 The show opened on Jungle Boy's Tarzan Boy entrance music playing for his FDW title match
05:22 against Hook, when it suddenly all dropped to black, cutting to a video of Jack Perry
05:26 digging a grave in the desert.
05:28 Which is like the second time he's had a grave digging vignette.
05:32 He's had more grave digging vignettes than AEW's resident goth Darby Allin.
05:37 He was, of course, burying his old gimmick.
05:39 Luckily, he didn't need to dig much, as the MJF feud booking did most of the burying
05:43 for him.
05:44 And he then debuted his new music - Beethoven's chart-topping classic Symphony No. 5.
05:49 Try singing along with that lyricless concert music for a heel, you marx-er.
05:53 Oh yeah, you already do that for Gunther.
05:55 I was very curious to see how Perry would perform in the ring, as I don't think he's
05:59 ever worked as a heel before.
06:00 Thankfully, he did it really well, not just getting himself booed with multiple cheating
06:04 spots, but getting Hook cheered more with pacing and one awesome German suplex no-sell.
06:10 After a visual pin, though, Jungle Boy became the new FDW Champion, aptly using the title
06:15 belt behind the referee's back.
06:17 It's the right decision, given his gimmick change, and perfect for his long-term character
06:21 arc.
06:22 After Christian and MJF told him to cheat, and he finally does, and he wins his first
06:27 singles belt.
06:28 But it does come at the expense of Hook's years-long undefeated streak, which feels
06:32 a bit lost in all of this.
06:34 Britt Baker squashed Kayla Sparks, tapping her out in a lockjaw.
06:37 Squash matches are really effective if there's some momentum there, but this feels like filler
06:40 for Baker.
06:41 You might say, a filling, rather than building her for something.
06:48 She's felt quite directionless for a while.
06:50 You want direction, asks AEW?
06:53 Well then here's all the directions for about 9 different wrestlers, belts and storylines
06:57 in one seamlessly integrated segment!
07:00 Firstly, we had the latest brilliant instalment in the Adam Cole and MJF bromance skits.
07:05 Cole wanted Max to face his ultimate fear.
07:07 No, not poor people, like MJF said, but eating spicy food.
07:12 Cue some excellent comedic acting from both men, particularly Cole getting more free from
07:15 his straight man role, reacting to the spicy food, then washing down the burn with what
07:20 they thought was water, but was actually 100% alcohol.
07:25 Why was that even an option?
07:26 They drunkenly bonded more, and were shown running towards a waiter with the double clothes
07:30 sign, but not shown actually hitting it to end the skit.
07:33 This expertly built their tag team tournament final against Daniel Garcia and Sammy Guevara,
07:37 who had their own storyline spinning, with Chris Jericho joining commentary and the future
07:41 of the JAS in doubt.
07:43 The crowd popped huge for MJF and Cole as babyfaces, particularly when they entered
07:48 in matching attire and, as a friendly surprise from Cole, mashup entrance music.
07:53 It's like the fans have always wanted to secretly cheer Max.
07:57 He's actually quite a tragic character, and people have empathy for that.
08:00 And him clicking with Cole has genuinely made them the most overact in the company.
08:05 That level of fan investment meant they could push the boundaries of what you could get
08:08 away with on an in-ring focused pro wrestling show.
08:11 They had a full on dance off.
08:14 Max did the headbutt bump into Sammy's dick.
08:17 The continued teasing of one of the simplest moves, the double clothesline.
08:22 It was the perfect balance of sports entertainment.
08:24 They're tweeners, you can put them against anyone.
08:27 Give me Cole and Max vs Team TNA.
08:29 MJF and Cole eventually won with the double clothesline, and the crowd exploded.
08:35 So Jericho immediately tried to make it all about him.
08:38 It was well done multi-layered storytelling as Garcia and Guevara walked out past Jericho.
08:43 But the stories aren't done there!
08:45 Cole then picked up Max's world title to hand it to him, but looked at it just a little
08:49 too long.
08:50 The way they were holding the belt to Max was what Hogan holding up Miss Elizabeth was
08:54 to Randy Savage, a deeply possessive man showing the first signs of self-destructive jealousy.
08:59 Max shoved him, but then they did hug it out in a great tease of things to come.
09:04 But before then, winning this match also gives Max and Cole shots at the AEW tag team titles.
09:09 FTR came down for a stare down, but this is a collision to end the segment.
09:14 An incredible amount was accomplished here.
09:16 If pro wrestling is all about getting you to want to see a match, then this is textbook
09:21 booking as there's now about 19 different matches I can't wait to see.
09:26 And that was all just in the first hour, as the second hour was entirely taken up by blood
09:30 and guts presented by Shark Week.
09:32 It had.
09:33 Literal blood.
09:34 It had.
09:35 Metaphorical guts.
09:36 But goddammit, I did not see a single shark in that cage.
09:40 False advertising, Tony.
09:42 False advertising.
09:43 The match was a magnificent spectacle of hardcore wrestling that somehow also felt safer and
09:48 more contained than previous years.
09:49 Can't believe I'm going to say this, but a match with a bed of nails?
09:53 How does Mox even smuggle that in?
09:55 And shards of glass kept me to the right side of kayfabe invested.
09:59 I can enjoy the violence without the spell being occasionally broken by genuine concern
10:03 for the wrestler's safety.
10:04 The amount of storyline context likely helped, with almost every combination of the Blackpool
10:09 Combat Club and the Golden Elite teams having years of history.
10:12 Hangman teaming with Omega, PAC and Kenny, Mox and Hangman, Tekestra and Omega.
10:17 There were a few suboptimal points.
10:19 I felt like the much hyped Ibushi debut got lost in the shuffle, it didn't do a great
10:23 deal and I found myself far more invested in the AEW-specific relationships like Omega
10:28 and Hangman over his inclusion.
10:30 The set up for the finish of PAC walking out on the BCC after frequently clashing with
10:34 Claudio felt more angle driven than character based, with AEW likely needing to book a new
10:39 ROH title challenger for Friday, along with a Bryan Danielson injury that necessitated
10:43 PAC.
10:44 And while the actual finish had unexpected, incredible heart - a handcuffed Mox throwing
10:49 in the towel to save Wheeler Yuta being choked to death because he's arguably toxically
10:53 conditioned his protégé to never give up, and Mox himself had previously tapped to a
10:57 Hangman chain choke - the cameras missed it, meaning we only heard about it from commentary,
11:02 and the moment's power was significantly decreased.
11:05 Still, the match was fantastic.
11:07 I could just keep listing spots - PAC's swinging stomp off the cage ceiling through
11:10 a table, Madden Yuta on the top of the cage, the five simultaneous submissions, Callis
11:15 calling to Keshter to leave because he saw their game was up.
11:18 Ultimately, it's a terrific end for what's been a brilliant BCC vs Elite feud.
11:24 AEW Dynamite Blood and Guts presented by Shark Kage is amongst the best episodes they've
11:29 ever done for me at 95%.
11:32 But is it better than Dominic Mysterio winning his first singles title?
11:36 Watch on to find out…
