00:00 Unrest has broken out in Kenya, where authorities had been bracing for a fresh round of protests.
00:05 This after over a dozen people were killed in violent demonstrations last week.
00:10 The opposition in Kenya is calling for three days of protests against the government of
00:15 William Ruto, calling it illegitimate and blaming it for the cost of living crisis.
00:21 For more on this story, here's our correspondent Bastien Honnuy reporting.
00:26 Opposition leaders were calling their supporters to demonstrate at noon this Wednesday.
00:31 And I can tell you that in several parts of Kenya, including here in Nairobi, people have
00:35 taken to the streets way earlier than that, including here in the slum of Matare.
00:40 It's one of the main opposition slums here in the capital of Kenya.
00:44 And youth have been engaging the police since early this morning.
00:47 They are throwing rocks at the police and glass bottles.
00:50 And the police is shooting tear gas and live bullets at these people.
00:55 And even at least four live ammunitions have been one man injured.
01:00 His foot was broken and he had a very deep cut on the leg.
01:03 One civilian, he was taken away by an ambulance from Médecins Sans Frontières.
01:09 And at least two other people have been arrested during these events here in Nairobi.
01:15 The same situation occurs in several parts of the capital and in several other cities.
01:20 The police said yesterday that it was a question of national security, that they will allow
01:25 peaceful demonstrations, but they will stop violent demonstrations.
01:29 And as you can see behind me, well, the police is trying to do so at the moment.
