A small submarine that recently went missing while attempting to visit the wreck of the Titanic was being piloted with a gamepad, leading to criticism of the use of off-the-shelf devices to control military equipment. The Titan, which vanished off the coast of Newfoundland, was being operated using a modified Logitech G F710 Wireless Gamepad. While the use of such devices has been mocked, it is becoming increasingly common due to their low cost and the familiarity younger recruits have with them. The US Navy is deploying Xbox controllers on its submarines to replace bulky flight sticks. At the same time, the British military has developed a driverless all-terrain vehicle controlled by an Xbox controller.
