00:07 Cial is the national consortium that guarantees the start and recycling of all aluminum packaging
00:14 once they have become refused.
00:17 Aluminum is easily recyclable, 100% and infinitely, without ever losing its characteristics,
00:24 always keeping them unchanged, so it means that it can be and can be found applications in numerous and new sectors,
00:32 with a continuous cycle, infinite, and with a huge energy and material saving.
00:38 We should remember that aluminum recycling allows 95% energy saving
00:43 compared to the production of raw materials, minerals, natural resources,
00:49 which are avoided by consumption and waste.
00:52 In 2022 we reached a recycling rate of 73.6% of aluminum packaging waste,
01:00 compared to packaging in the market, which in 2022 was 81,800 tons,
01:06 those recycled 60,200.
01:09 It is a really important fact that makes us proud of the first places in Europe,
01:14 we even exceed 10% of the European average of aluminum packaging waste recycling,
01:21 and we have also exceeded the objectives set by the European Union
01:26 to reach the 50% by 2025 and the 60% by 2030.
01:30 We are very happy because it is a result that shows the joint action of all the actors involved in the packaging industry,
01:39 from companies with all their innovation, research and prevention activities,
01:44 to institutions, municipalities, citizens, and of course to us, the consortia,
01:48 which we do a bit as a link, as a trade union between all these actors and partners.
01:54 It is also important to show the efficiency and effectiveness of the Italian model
02:00 of managing aluminum packaging and aluminum packaging waste,
02:04 and to give a specific data on the waste, which is that of aluminum drinking cans,
02:10 which in 2022 reached a recycling rate of 91.6%.
02:14 What does it mean?
02:16 It means being in line with those countries where the system, the model,
02:20 is based on the caustic deposit and even higher than the European average of 73%.
02:26 So our model, a mixed model, based on the different collection,
02:31 on an integrated mode of the different collection,
02:34 we can recover the aluminum from the black bag,
02:38 if the citizen mistakenly confers the packaging in the indifferent waste,
02:43 or even in the smaller fractions that end up in the so-called underlaying flow,
02:49 but also from the post-thermovalorizing sludge.
02:52 So we really recover 100% of the aluminum.
02:55 It is a system that therefore works in an efficient way from an economic point of view.
03:01 We are the ones who have the most efficient cost-result ratio in all of Europe.
03:06 Another element, I think, important to be able to remember
03:12 is that we no longer have to talk about the use and disposal of aluminum packaging,
03:18 but the new paradigm is use and recycling,
03:21 precisely for its capabilities and characteristics.
03:24 So we can say that our model, the Italian model,
03:27 and the aluminum material model,
03:29 is a reference model for what are now,
03:33 but even more so, the policies of the circular economy,
03:37 of the transition towards the circular economy.
