The Cameroonian Ministry of Health has imposed a ban on skin-lighting products following a spate of high profile cases of consumers developing skin cancers. Despite this shops selling skin-lightening products continue to prosper, with plenty of women on Cameroon's streets seemingly benefitting from their use. "When they see a brown woman out and about they appreciate her, and ultimately girls feel obliged to lighten their skin" says one woman in the streets of Douala.
