In the absence of contraindications, you can use various folk methods and remedies that have shown their effectiveness for a long time:
- Water: helps to eliminate swelling by excreting salt from the body;
- Foods with low salt content: If you observe puffiness, you should limit your salt intake, under the guise of store-bought bread, sauces, chips and various snacks. You need to consume more fruits, vegetables and whole grains;
- Foods with a high potassium content: Consuming more potassium, the sodium-potassium balance is restored, which affects the elimination of edema. A lot of potassium is found in: avocados, oranges, yogurt, potatoes, bananas, milk, poultry, veal.
- Dandelion tea: Dandelion leaves are a good natural diuretic, promoting the excretion of water through the kidneys;
- Nettle tea: nettle, disguised as tea, eliminates swelling;
- Corn silk: This is a mild diuretic. Perhaps this is due to the increased potassium content;
- Celery, asparagus, cucumbers and watermelon: these foods also have good diuretic properties;
- Turmeric: This spice, which is part of curry, has good anti-inflammatory properties and can prevent water retention;
- Parsley: This plant is characterized by mild diuretic properties;
- Vitamin B9 (Pyridoxine): This vitamin helps with fluid retention in the body during menstruation. Taking pyridoxine or consuming foods containing pyridoxine increases urine production and decreases body fluids. A lot of pyridoxine is found in such foods: bananas, avocados, peas, chicken, spinach, fish.
- Regular exercise: they have a positive effect on the elimination of puffiness;
- Medical stockings: they are a source of pressure on the legs and reduce to a minimum the swelling of the legs;
- Massage: a proper massage in the leg area can reduce swelling of the legs and promote the release of excess fluid;
- Stretch your legs: at the end of the working day, keep your legs above the level of your heart so that excess fluid returns back into the circulation, from where it is excreted through the kidneys under the guise of urine.
These tips will not work if:
- edema manifests itself under the guise of an increase in the abdomen or limbs and persists for several days;
- water retention causes swelling, in which finger pressure produces a visible mark;
- the patient has heart failure.
