For those who are a fan, it is a dream to be able to join the competition as a Professional Jockey, but just a few know how. Here is some important information in order to be a Professional Jockey; 1. The Right Training The qualification of a jockey are the right training, specific education, and determination. There is only ONE school in the whole world that provides this education; The North American Racing Academy. However, the application process is very competitive, long, and expensive. There are only 12 riders per year accepted in the academy. But that’s why determination is important. 2. Special Education Enrolling apprentice school or joining a trainer can be done by the age of 16. This is also the legal age for horse racing. There is a minimum of 4 years of training; and jockey candidate have to participate in minimum 20 barrel races before even begin to compete for real. Connecting with the trainer and the horse before competing is also a must. 3. Physical Characteristic of a Jockey For the flat race, jockey have to be at least 110 lbs or 50 kg to participate. And for jumps, jockey needs to be at least 136 lbs or 62 kg. The height of a professional jockey needs to be at least 5 feet 3 inch to 4 inch in order to fill the standard physical qualification.
