If you are a maintenance engineer, sometimes you need to inspect a wall thermostat. If you just inspect a single thermostat, just use a multimeter. But if you have to inspect hundred of thermostats, a thermostat tester is a better way. This video shows you how to make a thermostat tester.
Almost of materials used for my tester were reused items, I just bought a transformer, so my thermostat tester's cost is about $25.
If you have to buy all things, the total cost is about $70.
Because the thermostat tester need to be soldered its Printed Circuit Board (PCB), you need a little of soldering skill.
This is the link to download its schematic: https://hoatle1.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/thermostat-tester.pdf

Hope that this might be helpful, for your job!
