GOES-S weather satellite scheduled for launch on March 1

NASA and NOAA are teaming to launch the next geostationary weather satellite, GOES-S. It will improve weather coverage of the U.S West Coast concerning wildfires, Pacific hurricanes and the effects of El Nino and La Nina. Once deemed operational, the satellite will be renamed as the GOES-17. The launch is scheduled for March 1 at 5:02 PM ET in Cape Canaveral, Florida weather permitting.
