A vaudeville western foot stomping good time, Oh, Susanna! places singing cowboy phenom Gene Autry on center stage. When Autry unwittingly boards a train with a vicious outlaw, the criminal steals his clothes and throws him from the locomotive! Coming to, Autry realizes that he is dressed like a drifter, has no money, and no way prove he’s the famous Gene Autry. Fortunately, he still has his sonorous singing voice and a guitar comes into his possession soon enough. While the film is more than engaging, the real joy comes from Gene Autry shining on screen performing timeless Western ballads. Racing to stop the bad guys and restore his identity, Autry dazzles in Oh, Susanna!
