Mexico: ‘Barbie’ Extradited on Drug Charges

Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office announced the extradition on Wednesday of 13 drug traffickers to the United States. This came immediately after an operation was carried out by Mexican security forces in response to rumors of a riot in the Altiplano prison, from which drug kingpin Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman escaped last July. Yet the rumors were quickly quelled after the authorities said in a press conference that 13 presumed drug traffickers would face charges in the United States, including well-known cartel members Edgar Valdez Villareal, alias “la Barbie,” and Jorge Sanchez, “el Coss.” Clayton Conn reports from Mexico for teleSUR.
