IndiGo confirms record order for Airbus A320 planes

The Indian airline IndiGo has confirmed an order from Airbus for the biggest ever number of planes.

The low-cost airline had announced last October that it intended to buy 250 new A320neo planes.

The order, confirmed on Saturday as India celebrated the 69th anniversary of its independence, is reported to be worth 26.55 billion dollars (nearly 24 billion euros).

Airbus has now received orders for more than 4,100 A320neos. The IndiGo purchase helps the European group increase its lead over its rival Boeing which has sold under 2,831 of its equivalent 737s.
