Fiat Chrysler is recalling around 1.4 million vehicles in the US after security researchers showed one of its cars could be hacked. The company said it was using the recall to update the software in the affected vehicles and added hacking its vehicles was a “criminal action”.

American magazine Wired reported two US security researchers managed to take control of an internet connected Jeep Cherokee’s air conditioning system, radio and windscreen wipers while its journalist was driving the vehicle.

The recall covers cars and trucks with 8.4 inch screens including Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles made between 2013 and 2015.
