Providence, Rhode Island’s Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade was honored by Rhode Island-based promoter Jimmy Burchfield at the Twin River Events Center on Aug. 10 when undefeated professional Matt Godfrey, rated #2 by the WBC, successfully defended his NABF cruiserweight title with a 10-round decision over Derrick Brown .
Andrade, who looking to earn a spot on the 2008 Olympic boxing team at welterweight, is a two-time U.S Championships and two-time National Golden Gloves Champion. Burchfield - who oversees Classic Entertainment and Sports (CES) - inducted Andrade into his promotional company’s “Ring of Honor.”
Andrade recently won a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro last month. The stylish welterweight (152 lbs.) was edged, 7-6, in the gold medal match to Brazilian hometown favorite Pedro Lima. Andrade talks about that controversial loss in this video, as well as his Olympic hopes and dreams. Earlier this week, Andrade began competing in the week-long Olympic Trials. As of this writing, he had notched two stoppage victories.
