Ahead of the UN Climate Conference in Paris in December, NGOs and business leaders gathered in the French capital to discuss their role in fighting global warming and promoting clean energy. Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), spoke to FRANCE 24's Stéphanie Antoine.
“I know that Paris will be a success”, Christiana Figueres says confidently of the December conference. However, she acknowledges that developing countries will "need financial support" in order to continue their economic growth without a carbon footprint.
Regarding the important role to be played by companies in reducing emissions, Figueres urges firms not to wait for “policy perfection”. “Companies have to realise that there is policy visibility now… and that it is in their own interest to accelerate their engagement on low-carbon services and products”, she explains.
