Protesters in a demonstration yesterday evening in Quito, Ecuador called by the indigenous movement CONAE, opposition labor unions, and right-wing forces, threw sticks and Molotov cocktails at police. The demonstration was against the government's pension policies, constitutional reform and the decision to impose temporary tariffs on non-essential imports as a way to protect domestic producers. Attendance at the protest fell far short of organizers predictions. President Rafael Correa charged that the demonstration was part of a strategy to undermine progressive governments in the region. teleSUR
