Fats Waller & The Louisiana Sugar Babes-1928-Thou Swell

Reviving Lazy Louisiana Weekends again. Thomas "Fats" Waller, James Johnson, Jabbo Smith and Garvin Bushell formed the Louisiana Sugar Babes to record several sides for Victor Talking Machine Co in 1928. Here, they are playing Thou Swell from the Rodgers & Hart musical A Connecticut Yankee. This Sugar Babes creation was released March 27, 1928 as Victor 21346 and Bluebird B10260. The Victor Talking Machine Company had purchased the old Trinity Baptist Church property which was adjacent to its' campus, in 1919. The building was found to have excellent acoustics and became to be used as another Victor recording studio outfitted with a new Estey Organ. This 78 was recorded in that old church with Fats leading the Sugar Babes on that new Estey Organ.
