Joe "King" Oliver~1923~Working Man Blues

Working Man Blues is one of the very earliest examples of the Chicago style Blues. Enjoy the improvisation between the players and the rhythm which conjures up feelings of the patient, stoic drudgery of the working man. Recorded in Chicago October 26, 1923 for Okeh (label 40034)~King Oliver and HIs Jazz Band. Composed by Joe Oliver.
This was first recorded on October 5, 1923 for Gennett (label 5275B) in Richmond, Indiana as one of their "race records" offerings aimed at black audiences. The musicians for the Gennett session definitely were King Oliver, Conductor and first cornet; Honore Dutrey, Trombone; Stump Evans, C Melody Sax; Johnny St Cyr, Banjo; Louis armstrong, Second Cornet; Lil Hardin, Piano; Baby Dodds, Drums; and Buster Bailey, Clarinet. I believe the musicians to be the same for the OKEH Chicago session. The pianist for this record, Lil Hardin, was later to become Louis Armstrong's wife.
