Starting in the tropical lowland villages around Pokhara, we enter the Modi Khola Gorge and follow the route under Machhapuchhare (6,997 meters) and enter the hidden world of Annapurna Sanctuary. We trek to Deorali Pass, where some 3,200 meters below run the Kali Gandaki River through the deepest valley in the world. To the East stands the mighty Mount Annapurna I (8,091meters) and to the West is an immense massif of Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters) along with many other snow-capped mountains. These most awe-inspiring and unforgettable mountains make trekkers want to stay there forever. The view is literally majestic. A circular route brings us back to complete a truly memorable trek.
Believed by local Gurungs as a place of the Gods, the Annapurna Sanctuary is indeed something very special. From Pokhara, we head to Ghandruk and follow the Modi River through bamboo and rhododendrons to the sanctuary located at some 4,070 meters above the sea level. Ringed by snow-covered peaks of 6, 7 and 8 thousand meters and crashing glaciers, it is indeed a trekker’s paradise and it is only ironic that locals believe the same but for different reasons.
