Terminally ill cancer patient Brittany Maynard ends life at age of 29

A woman with terminal brain cancer who championed the right to assisted suicide has ended her life.

American Brittany Maynard had previously said she had chosen November 1 as the day she would die.

The 29-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January and said she planned to take the lethal dose when her pain became unbearable.

She had moved from California to Oregon to take advantage of the state’s Death With Dignity act which allows doctor-assisted suicide.

Maynard posted videos about her condition and choices on YouTube which went viral – one was watched nine million times.

A statement on Facebook said she passed away “peacefully in her bed surrounded by close family and loved ones.”
