00:01The US Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump overstepped his authority and
00:07blocked the sweeping tariffs he had imposed on nearly every country. Trump had imposed tariffs,
00:12including reciprocal ones under an emergency powers law. The court now found that the emergency
00:18powers law does not give Trump the authority to impose the tariffs. Trump called the ruling
00:24a disappointment and vowed to use alternative methods to pursue tariffs. The Supreme Court's
00:31ruling on tariffs is deeply disappointing and I'm ashamed of certain members of the court,
00:40absolutely ashamed for not having the courage to do what's right for our country. In reality,
00:46the Constitution gives Congress the power to levy tariffs, but the Trump administration argued
00:52that a law allowing the president to regulate importation during emergency also allows him
00:57to set them. Other presidents have used the law dozens of times, often to impose sanctions,
01:03but Trump was the first president to invoke it for import taxes.
