Eric Dane, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star actor and ALS awareness advocate, dies at 53

00:01Renowned actor Eric Dane, well known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria,
00:06passed away on Thursday at the age of 53, his representatives said.
00:12Dane died from ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known also as Lou Gehrig's disease,
00:19less than a year after he announced his diagnosis.
00:22The American actor developed a devoted fan base when his big break arrived in the mid-2000s.
00:30He was cast as Dr. Mark Sloan, aka Max Timmy on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy,
00:37a role he would play from 2006 until 2012.
00:42Born in November 1972, Dane grew up in Northern California.
00:47Last April, Dane announced he had been diagnosed with ALS,
00:51a progressive disease that attacks nerve cells controlling muscles throughout the body.
00:57He then became an advocate for ALS awareness.
